JAWS AND PAWS

Discover the world of animal teeth in a day-long family festival devoted to our furry friends and their unique choppers. Talk to animal experts and enjoy a day of family fun. See a prehistoric sharkâs tooth as big as a baseball glove, and explore a special exhibit on the mysterious narwhal, the Arctic whale with the six-foot long tooth! Plus play toothy games, dress up like your favorite animal, and make animal masks and puppets to take home.

Mouthie guides children in a hands-on discovery of the power of a healthy smile. Visitors practice brushing and flossing on a larger-than-life mouth, role play in a child-size “dental office,” learn the dangers of tobacco, explore the parts of a tooth, and more.

Tooth Time for Tots: Your Daily Routine
Friday, July 2, 2 p.m.
Meal time, bath time, nap time, tooth-brushing time—these are things we do every day. Read the book “I Know Why I Brush My Teeth” and explore daily routines. Each month highlights a different tooth-themed book and a tour of the galleries. Hear a story, practice brushing and flossing and make a souvenir to take home. For families with children ages 2-5.

Help kids understand what happens at the dentist office through observation, dress up, and play. Watch “Dudley Visits the Dentist” and read “Going to the Dentist” Each month highlights a different tooth-themed book and a tour of the galleries. Hear a story, practice brushing and flossing and make a souvenir to take home. For families with children ages 2-5
Smithsonian Museum Day
Saturday, September 25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The National Museum of Dentistry joins participating museums and cultural institutions across the country to offer free admission to Smithsonian magazine readers. Participants must present the Museum Day Admission Card available in the September 2010 issue of Smithsonian. The National Museum of Dentistry is an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

Happy,sad, glad and mad. Our mouth can tell others what mood we are in. Children explore moods and see how to read facial expressions through objects, play and a craft. Read “A Good Day” and discover how bad days can turn into good days! For families with children ages 2-5.
